Atlantic corridor

Straw-man route · not navigational

This is a provisional GPX-backed route derived from the current itinerary. It is intentionally a straw man and will be replaced after route planning and validation.

Route concept

The plan progresses from Bilbao through Urdaibai and the coastal corridor towards Lekeitio, Deba, Zumaia and Zarautz, then uses Donostia as a weather/rest buffer before returning to Bilbao for the ferry.

Core rule
Enjoyment over distance. Do not recover a shortened day by adding a large amount of climbing to the next day.

Ferry-safe strategy

  • Friday: work → Rosslare → ferry.
  • Sunday: arrive Bilbao and begin the trip.
  • Zarautz: two-night base with an unloaded gravel day.
  • Donostia: deliberate weather/rest buffer.
  • Return: E1 is the default ferry-safe repositioning option.

DAY MAP

Weather

Forecasts are shown for each riding day when the provider can supply them. Long-range dates deliberately show an unavailable state rather than pretending we can forecast March 2027 today.

Trip planning rule
Use the forecast to inform the riding decision; it does not automatically make a green/amber/red decision for you.

Weather resilience

The weather integration is designed to fail gracefully. If the provider is unavailable, the core itinerary and maps remain usable.

Forecast provider: Open-Meteo. Attribution is shown alongside forecast data.
